21st (Wigan) Lancashire Rifle Volunteer Corps pouch belt plate

A good rare example on three of four screw posts. Blackened laurel wreath surmounted by a crown resting on a blank tablet. Within the wreath, mounted on the finely seeded backing plate, a silvered strap "Wigan Volunteer Rifles" with central rose in relief.
Formed 20th January, 1860 at Wigan forming part of 4th Admin. Bn at Eccles. 4th became 1st VB Manchester Regiment in 1888 and formed regiment's 5th Bn. 1st April, 1908.
