78th Highlanders (Ross-shire) Buffs Victorian Officer’s plaid brooch

A very good scarce silver and gilt pre Crimea plaid brooch circa 1840-48. Gilt quoit mounted with a silver crown, thistle wreath with '78' to the centre. Mounted to the lower part of the quoit, a silver scroll inscribed “CUIDICH 'N RHI". Stout pin to reverse replaced during its working life from vertical to horizontal. Usual minor wear commensurate with age.
