Dorset Rifle Volunteers Victorian Officer’s helmet plate

A fine scarce die-stamped blackened example with polished highlights. Crowned Maltese cross bearing circlet inscribed "PRO PATRIA", strung bugle to centre. Arm of the cross inscribed "DORSET" "RIFLE" "VOLRS" with fasces to bottom arm. Three loops to reverse.
Became a VB of the Dorsetshire Regt. on 1st July 1881 but only designated 1st VB on 1st December 1887.
