Irish. Kildare Rifles Militia Victorian OR’s glengarry badge

A good scarce die-stamped blackened brass example circa 1874-81. Crowned strap inscribed “KILDAIR RIFLES”; to the centre, two serpents and motto “PRUDENS UT SERPENS”. Two loops to reverse.
Raised at Naas circa 1780 as Kildare Militia, became 3rd Bn. Royal Dublin Fusiliers on Friday 1st July 1881
