1st Royal Surrey Militia George IV Officer’s 'Regency Pattern' shako

A very fine extremely rare example on two horizontal loops. Die-cast silver Garter star mounted with pierced gilt strap “First Royal Surrey Regt.” on a blue enamel ground; crown to domed centre. A little wear to gilt otherwise an excellent example. Originally raised 18th April 1759 at Richmond; reformed in 1779 as 1st Surrey Militia; redesignated “Royal” in 1804; became 3rd Battalion The East Surrey Regiment on 1st July 1881.
